Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the individual in this position acts as a staff pharmacist at our La Clinica Pharmacy. As a Pharmacist, you will perform a number of professional pharmaceutical duties including the compounding of drugs and dispensing of medicines/medical preparations. We are looking for a pharmacist who can carry out methods and procedures in preparing prescriptions and for explaining drug dosages, incompatibilities, toxicity, etc., to staff members and medical providers. You will also be preparing and keeping routine records and reports, particularly as required by federal and state laws. The nature of work we are looking for involves continuous close attention to detail for accurate results. Finally, you will work face to face with those we serve by providing direct consultation with patients on dosing, storage, and possible side effects.

Major Areas of Responsibility, include but are not limited to:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and labels medications/preparations as directed by prescription.
  • Dispenses narcotic/hypnotic drugs in compliance with federal and state law.
  • Checks pharmacy regular and reserve stock and stock at the various sections for the purpose of keeping inventories stable and eliminating drugs which are outdated or otherwise deemed unsatisfactory for use.
  • Maintains records required by law on requisitions, hypnotic and narcotic prescription, and patient prescriptions.
  • Maintains a drug literature file for the use of other staff.
  • May answer questions on drug medications as to dosage, incompatibilities, various forms, toxicity, etc., for doctors, mid-level practitioners and medical assistants.
  • Counsel patients on all new and refill prescriptions.
  • Maintains a clinic formulary which is adopted and under control of joint pharmaceutical and medical staff.
  • May provide consultation, training, and education about drug therapy, disease management, and disease prevention.
  • May provide medication in accordance with state law.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Modern methods and procedures used in the practice of pharmacy, including the United States Pharmacopeia and National Formulae and laws regulating the practice of pharmacy.
  • Ability and skill to prepare and maintain accurate, routine reports and records.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English or Chinese/English preferred, not required.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires completion of PharmD degree from an accredited college or university, supplemented by at least three years of professional experience in the preparing and dispensing of prescribed drugs; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Possession of a current certificate as a licentiate in pharmacy issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must hold a current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate. You will have 30-day grace period to obtain your certificate from the date of hire.

Physical Requirements:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Bending/lifting, pushing/pulling, adjusting, or moving objects weighing up to 15 pounds in all directions and occasionally more.
  • Repeating motions that may include the neck, wrists, hands and/or fingers.
